Apply now for the YAMA Scholarship 2020

The Yemeni American Merchant Association is excited to announce its first scholarship program to four eligible recipients who will receive a monetary award of $1,000 and an opportunity to serve the Yemeni American community through YAMA for the year. Winners will be announced at YAMA’s 2nd annual 2020 gala, which will take place Feb. 1, 2020. All applicants should include their full name and reliable contact information with their submissions as well as the school they are currently attending or planning to enroll in as a student.
Eligibility to Apply:
Must be a Yemeni American
Must be a NYC resident
Must be a daughter or son of a Yemeni Merchant
Must be registered in a CUNY undergraduate school or will be by Sept. 2020
Minimum 2.5 GPA
Must have community service experience
Must commit to 40 hours of service at YAMA within the year of the scholarship
Please submit one reference letter from a teacher or professor. Reference letter must be emailed by your reference to yamascholarship2020@gmail.com
Non-eligibility:
Family members of YAMA board and staff
Graduate/doctoral students
Private university students
Application Deadline: All applications must be submitted by Jan. 25, 2020 (11:59 pm). Applications emailed separately will not be accepted.

Filling out the form includes uploading your essay on the topic below. The essay should be between 700 and no more than 1000 words.
Essay Prompt: Speak of an experience that has inspired your passion and how are you pursuing it today. What impact will pursuing your passion have on your local community and/or the world? How do you plan to achieve your passion through your educational goals?
